Happy New Year

Happy New Year, or belated New Year I guess I should say (11 days late)....December was a whirlwind so it's been awhile since I've posted anything.

Somewhere in the last 11 days, I decided my New Years resolution is that I'm going to make a concscious effort to read more. And not just fun light fiction books...business, history, investing books, etc to increase my knowledge base and broaden my life outlook.

While in Costa Rica over Xmas with my family (which I will write more about soon), I was able to read three whole books in matter of 10 days. When all your doing is lounging around on a beach, I guess that is easy to do. Unfortunately for me my life is usually too crazy to read that much, BUT hopefully this year I can find the time to change that.

So far on the list for 2007:
Liar's Poker by Michael Lewis
Non fiction- About a young 20 something guy navigating his way through Soloman Brothers during the late 80's bond market craze.

The BlindSide by Michael Lewis
Non-fiction- The author tells the life story of a young black kid from the ghetto of Memphis, how he finds a way out of poverty, and becomes one of the most highly recruited left tackles out of high school. Lewis does a good job of tieing in the young man's life with history on the left tackle position and how/why it has developed into one of the most highly paid positions in the NFL. If you like football this is a great read!

Case Histories by Kate Atkinson
Fiction- A good mystery and very fast read. The main character/detective takes on three cases involving past crimes that occurred in and around London. The book keeps you guessing and in the end you learn all three crimes are tied together.

And finally, my most current read is our book club book of the month:
Queen of Dreams by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
Fiction- takes place in Berkeley, CA...a young Indian woman explores her past in order to better understand herself and the way she lives her life.

So far Dec/Jan have been good months, hopefully I can keep it up over the next 11!
